Caring for the Spouse of a Person Experiencing Dementia

Matthew Kuiper

Even though caring for a spouse with dementia is a terrible hardship, realizing the continuing value of the person allows for an opportunity for healing, growth, and understanding in a spouse. With a positive approach to the disease by focusing on the remaining abilities of a person experiencing dementia, spouses receive a unique opportunity for a season of insight at the end of life. By understanding the disease and acknowledging the changing nature of their roles, better relationships can be fostered between the couple.
